Faraday Institute Summer Course
'Science or Religion: Do we have to choose?'

There is just enough time to register for your place at the annual Faraday Summer Course, which is the highlight of our year and provides the opportunity to grapple with a wide range of issues in the science and religion debate.

Lectures will be delivered by a team of international speakers including Prof Alister McGrath, Prof Simon Conway Morris, Prof David WIlkinson, Dr Barbara Drossel, Dr Erin Joakim, Prof Peter Clarke, Revd Dr Ernest Lucas, Dr Jamie Aten, Dr Michael Burdett. In addition there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and group discussion as well as informal interaction with speakers.  The course takes place in the leafy surroundings of Lucy Cavendish College, with accommodation in single study bedrooms.

This year's course also features a Science Magic demonstration and a poetry reading from our Poet-in-Residence, Chris Southgate. Included in the price is a science heritage tour of Cambridge and a visit to see the Darwin Papers at the University Library

May Update

New Podcast Playlist "The Faraday Institute: Responses to the News" is the latest addition to our podcast series. This month Faraday Director Bob White discusses the recent earthquakes in Nepal as well as the implications of 'natural disasters' over time. Including a theological discussion regarding disasters in the Bible and human responses to them over history.

Premier Radio: Unbelievable? Is faith good for science? Ruth Bancewicz discusses science and faith with Dr Eugenie Scott of the National Center for Science Education, USA, on Premier Christian Radio’s ‘Unbelievable’ show.

At the end of May Hilary Marlow travelled to Istanbul to take part in an inter-faith consultation entitled ‘Creation: Our Shared Inheritance'. It drew together Christians and Muslims from across the world to discuss creation theology in the two traditions and to explore practical responses to the challenge to care for creation. She writes: 'It was enriching and humbling to learn from one another’s scriptures and traditions and to work together on ways that we can make a positive difference in the world.'

Faraday Regional Courses
Over the next two years, we hope to run a series of regional day courses around the UK. But we can't do it without your help.
So would you like to organise a Faraday Day Course in your local area?  We will work with you to plan it and help with everything from booking speakers to providing a bookstall. If so contact Faraday Course Director, Hilary Marlow on

Overseas Courses
Every year, Faraday staff travel to other countries to take part in conferences, courses and workshops on science and religion.  A real highlight for us is working with local partners in a particular city or university to deliver a high quality course on science and religion targeted to the specific local context. In 2014 we helped organise and provided speakers for courses in Sweden, Brazil, Argentina and Spain. This year we will be in Guatemala in June and possibly Mexico later in the year. There are always more opportunities than we have the resources of people, time or money to deliver. But it is very encouraging to hear positive feedback from those who’ve taken part:
“We are delighted and very thankful for the great course on science and religion that you provided for us. Both from the quality of the contents as well as from a pedagogical point of view it was a complete success!”
“It has been a pleasure to have you here…Your help is very much appreciated. In some ways, the course has gone beyond our expectations, in particular the good attendance. This is the very first public activity of such magnitude that we do together. And, in addition, we have got to know new people interested in science and faith in Spain and Latin America.”

This month we will be in Guatemala for a four day course entitled La creación de Dios: desde la Gran Explosión hasta el Cambio Climático  (God’s Creation: From the Big Bang to Climate Change)
